Why It Will Work

If you’ve arrived at this page, you are probably already aware of the many problems now facing our planet. You have a desire to make a difference however you can but may question the realistic value of a single person’s efforts. The truth is most people would prefer a world of peace and balance over a world of war and domination, but most people do not really believe such a world is possible. And herein lays the problem. How can we possibly work toward a peaceful co-existence as fellow human beings if we do not believe it is really possible?

Collectively, we look back at history’s redundant themes of conquest, greed, and war and think to ourselves, “Yes, history does repeat itself.” And why shouldn’t we? It has in fact repeated itself, time and time again. But perhaps this perspective is in itself the problem. If we keep looking to the past to determine the potential for our future, we will certainly be destined to repeat it. The time has come for a new perspective, a new understanding of our ability to affect our global destiny, turning our eyes away from the mistakes of the past toward the frontier of our future.

This new perspective begins with the understanding that every one of us possesses the power to heal the world.  Prophets have spoken of this for millennia, and now science is coming to the same conclusion.  Everything we need to heal the earth is located in our own minds, our own thoughts, and by combining our thoughts with the meditation of others around the world, peace and balance can become our reality.

A Quick Physics Lesson

Over the past century physics has begun to look more like an eastern religion than a science. Not because its scientific technique has been called into question, but because this new science is echoing the teachings of many of the earth’s prophets as it proclaims that everything is interlinked, woven together, and that our whole material world may just be made up of one surprising thing – consciousness vibrating at different frequencies.

Before 1801, electrons were believed to behave as particles, or like tiny fast-moving grains of sand. Then, in an experiment that would forever change the face of science, Thomas Young conducted his famous two-slit experiment, suggesting that electrons can behave as either particles or waves. This of course seemed impossible, so the experiment was conducted hundreds of times in hundreds of different settings and the results were shocking. The scientists found that electrons moved as waves if no one was watching, but if there was an observer then the electrons acted according to the scientist’s hypothesis. If the scientist thought the electrons would behave as particles then they did, and vice versa if the scientist believed they would act as waves, they acted accordingly. This phenomenon became known as the wave-particle duality and suggested that human consciousness impacts the physical environment around us. The implications of this experiment are profound – using our own thoughts, it appears we may be able to control our world and our destinies.

Since the beginnings of human civilization, people have believed in the power of intent (focused thought) for its healing and guiding properties. After all, what is prayer but focusing your thoughts on the recovery of a sick family member or the ability to overcome a personal struggle? Jesus used his intent to heal the blind and walk on water, and he did not reserve this power of intent for himself; he advised us that “whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith." (Matthew 21:22) Buddha and Lao Tzu both attained enlightenment through focused intent; it is a practice that has been used in the east under the term meditation for centuries.  More recently, Duke University conducted experiments in which people from varying countries and religions around the world prayed for sick patients who took part in the study. Amazingly, some people healed up to seven times faster, and on average prayer recipients healed three times faster than the average patient. Prayer, when thought of as personal intent, is one of the most powerful and underrated resources we have.

Our Interconnected World

In another extraordinary experiment, physicists found that if they split a subatomic particle, the two pieces went flying off in opposite directions. To their amazement, when they changed the spin of one particle, its sister particle instantaneously changed its spin in the same direction as well. This startled the scientists. Until this time it was believed, as Einstein had calculated, that nothing in the universe could travel faster than the speed of light; however, the two particles did not wait for even one millionth of a second before they began spinning in the same direction. Neils Bohr pointed out that Einstein may have been making a fundamental error in his calculations. He noted that Einstein was assuming that particles are things, that they have separate existences independent from the other. Bohr asked, what if the two particles, although millions of light years apart, were part of the same thing and had no separation as far as they were aware? In fact, what if the whole universe is part of the same thing? What if everything is interconnected and everything knows where everything else is and what it is doing? What if the whole universe is part of one super consciousness? Repeated experiments proved that Bohr was most likely right, and his interpretation of Einstein has become known as the Copenhagen interpretation. This idea is now known as non-local phenomena or non-locality and is considered by most physicists to be an important interpretation of quantum mechanics.

But this is by no means a new idea. Most indigenous tribes throughout the world have a name for a great spirit which manifests all and lives in all things animate and inanimate. Hindus believe that everything is manifested from Brahman, and Christ said, “I am the light that is above them all. I am the ALL. The ALL came from me, and returned to me. Split wood and I am there. Raise a stone and you will find me.” (Gospel of Thomas, Verse 77.) The Bible refers to the omnipresence of God in Psalm 139, "Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?"  The notion that there is an all-encompassing entity or being has long been accepted through faith.  Everyone has also heard of the scientific theory most often accepted for the creation of our universe, the Big Bang Theory. In this theory, all matter originates from the same source.

We are all linked together. Everything in our universe is interconnected by a giant matrix, the nature of which we are still barely even able to imagine. Each one of our thoughts resonates across the world, touching every soul on this planet. Think about that.

Everything is part of one larger consciousness, and our thoughts can and do alter our surroundings. This means we have an extraordinary ability within our own minds to change the world through prayer.

The Wave Intensity Theory

“According to the laws of wave mechanics, the intensity of any kind of waves that are in a phase with each other is square the sum of the waves. In other words, two waves added together are four times as intense as one wave, [and] ten waves are one hundred times as intense” (Victor Grey, as quoted in The Last Hours of Ancient Sunlight Hartmann 209).

All thought is energy, and as the Quick Physics Lesson above explained, energy acts as a wave. Applying the laws of wave mechanics to waves of thought-energy, it seems that all we would need is approximately 144,000 people, all visualizing with intention a world of peace and balance together, to overcome the intensity of the 7,000,000,000 other chaotic and random thoughts across the globe, thus reaching a critical mass and rolling the planetary reality into one of harmony.

Repeated studies conducted by the Transcendental Meditationists have shown us that when a group of people meditate for the peace of a city, the crime rate of that city drops dramatically. In one example, a 1993 study conducted in Washington, D.C. with 4,000 participating meditators indicated a decrease of homicides, rapes, and assaults by 23% during the period of the study.

Because the overwhelming majority of humans want peace, it can be contagious.  The more people who believe, pray and act peacefully, the more people who will find and know peace.  Peaceful co-existence is a committment and a choice; it is an adamant belief that peace can become the global reality.  Each individual who chooses to make peace a prioirty becomes a flame that will ignite the hope and vision for peace in the hearts of every one he or she encounters.

It can work. It has worked. It will work, if enough people want it to. Thank you for your participation.  Peace.
